History

The National Harnett High School Alumni Association, Inc. was founded by Charles Herring and Parham McNeill in 1971. The National Harnett High School Alumni Association, Inc. is a non-profit organization that was organized by our founders to preserve our heritage and provide a link to our future, while also providing financial assistance to young men and women pursuing a secondary education. As the Association developed, it was decided that an annual reunion would be held during the Thanksgiving weekend. The National Harnett High School Alumni Association, Inc. is headquartered in Dunn, North Carolina at the Old Harnett High School building at 610 East Johnson Street, Dunn, NC 28334.

Purpose

The nature of the activities to be conducted, or the purposes to be promoted or carried out by the Corporation, a not-for-profit charitable and educational organization, are as follows:

  1. To provide scholarships, grants, and other financial aid to assist deserving high school students in pursuing college, university, technical, and similar advanced training and education;
  2. To disseminate to high school students information concerning educational opportunities;
  3. To generally further and enhance the opportunities of those persons associated with the former Harnett High School of Dunn, North Carolina, who whether by virtue of their matriculation, graduation, or employment have the aforementioned school as a common and similar part of their experience; and more particularly, to advise such persons as to career and job opportunities, to promote among such persons a spirit of fellowship and social intercourse, and to make available the resources of said corporation, as determined by the Board of Directors and in strict accord with the By-Laws of the Corporation, for the aid, care, and promotion of the interests of such persons;
  4. To promote and cultivate the social, cultural, educational, and recreational interests and welfare of its members.

Non-Profit Status
The Corporation is a non-profit organization. It may be supported by voluntary contributions, endowments, dues, bequests or otherwise. No part of the net income of the Corporation shall inure to the benefit of any Director or member of the Corporation.

Membership
The Corporation shall be a membership organization. Membership eligibility shall be established by the By-Laws of the Corporation. All members of the Corporation shall be entitled to vote as set forth in the By-Laws of the Corporation.

Non-Discriminatory
The Association shall not discriminate on the basis of race, creed, color, national origin, or sex.
